A to Z Dating | M is for Mexican @ Topolabamba Aberdeen

M is for Mexican!
Market - Mezze - Mountains - Movies - Museums - Musical

Yes, alphabet dates are back! Between our honeymoon and the festives, we haven't had much free time (or cash) for date nights. With the January blues well and truly set in, it seemed like perfect timing when Topolabamba invited us along to check out their express lunch deal. M is for Mexican and Mexican = Margaritas, right?!

Available from 12-4pm, the menu allows you to choose two small plates from a selection of Mexican street foods, plus rice or salt and chilli fries, for just £9.95. Personally the rice doesn't work with the other dishes for me - I'd rather see it swapped for a tortilla chips & dip option. Other than that, the menu is faultless!

We shared our dishes which made it a bit easier to pick - I could have tacos and taquitos! Chicken tinga tacos had a bit of a kick and the crispy fried taquitos added a good crunch, complimented by the soft, crumbly cheese and pablano chilli veggie filling.

Gordon would of had the Barbacoa beef filling in everything if I'd let him, but I think the Tortas Mexicanas was the best choice! A sandwich full of shredded beef, cheese and a spicy "Mayan" mustard, it packs a serious flavour punch. My chorizo quesadillas were mild in comparison, but still one of my favourite dishes.

Postres (desserts) aren't included in the express lunch deal (you really don't need them after all that!) but we couldn't resist the classic churros (£4.95). Hot, crispy, cinnamon coated doughnuts dipped in a rich, runny chocolate sauce. Washed down with a tequila cocktail - the Paloma 55 - it felt like a pretty authentic ending to our Mexican lunch date!

I'll let you know how authentic it really is, once I tick Mexico off the bucket list!

*We were invited by Topolabamba to review the Express Lunch Menu but all views are my own, as always.

  1. I really liked the food there when we went. Ugh and I know what you mean about the January blues... although I've been doing a whole30 challenge so eating out is impossible. Can't wait for Restaurant Week and some nice meals out when family comes to visit.
