Aberdeen Restaurant Week | 5 of the Most Inspired Menus!

[AD] This article is part of a paid partnership with Aberdeen Inspired.

Aberdeen Restaurant Week is back for 2019! I'm excited to be working with Aberdeen Inspired on the project again as a brand ambassador, and really looking forward to getting out and trying the different menus.

Almost 40 Granite City restaurants have signed up to the event, which takes place from 4th-10th February, offering a 2 course lunch for £10 or 3 course dinner for £20. This time round, there will also be some exciting foodie events available with the likes of afternoon tea at Native, a Sunday Jazz dinner at Café Boheme and a 5 course tasting menu at No 10 Bar and Restaurant!

Bar snacks from the Tippling House Aberdeen

I like to use Restaurant Week as a chance to go somewhere I've never been as the set menus give a good taste of what they're all about. Of course with so much choice it can be hard to know where to start, so I've taken the chance to go through all the menus and pick out 5 of my favourites.

The City Bar & Diner

I've been meaning to try the City on Netherkirkgate for so long, so I jumped at the chance when I saw they'd signed up! The 3 course dinner menu features an eclectic mix of international dishes, with starters of chicken kiev brochette, chestnut tortellini and steamed mussels with chorizo.

Main courses range from pan fried chicken breast with haggis, neeps and tatties, to panko fried monkfish sushi roll, a crispy seaweed salad or - the stand out dish for me - beef rendang curry! My table is booked and I can't wait to round it up with a delicious sounding apple crumble pie and butterscotch custard.

Cafe Andaluz interior - Aberdeen Restaurant Week

Café Andaluz

I ate here during the first Aberdeen Restaurant Week this time last year, and was so impressed with the standard (and sheer volume!) of food that I'm considering going back for lunch this time. For just £10 you can enjoy a basket of bread and olives, along with 2 tapas plates. The ARW menu features an excellent choice of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes.

My picks would be the patatas gratinadas (sliced potatoes baked with garlic cream and mozzarella) and croquettas de jamon y queso (ham and cheese croquettes) - delicious!

Nasi lemak with chicken at Selera Malaysia Bistro

Selera Malaysia Bistro

Another gem I discovered through a previous ARW. When I reviewed the restaurant, I was blown away by the flavour packed dishes and the incredibly friendly service at Selera. There are some new options on the menu this time, available at both lunch and dinner (with a pandan syrup drink included!) but I'll give you my personal recommendations...

Start with the roti canai (Malaysian flatbread) with dhal, followed by the nasi lemak with Selera chicken and finish with my absolute favourite - pandan filled brownies! You won't regret it.

Cocktails at the Tippling House | Aberdeen Restaurant Week

The Tippling House

If you like a good cocktail, the Tippling House is the one for you. Their £20 dinner menu kicks off with an "amuse-booze" -  I like the sound of that! I'm torn between scallops, pork belly or the soup of the day to start, but the fillet of pork would be my choice of main!

If you've a sweet tooth like me you can tuck into "tarte - rhubarb - meringue" or "crème brulee - vanilla - stracciattella frozen milk - chocolate" for dessert; both of which sound delicious. Otherwise you can opt for cheese with winter fruit chutney and arran oaties! I think I'm going to have to get a table booked...

Angus and Ale burger - may differ from Aberdeen Restaurant week menu

Angus & Ale

I haven't been to Angus & Ale since they relocated from Schoolhill to Adelphi, but their £10 lunch menu might just force me there. Starters include black pudding bon bons, marinated chicken skewers and mac attack - their famous macaroni cheese!

Of course the mains are a selection of burgers with the Schoolhill Special (cheeseburger), Rob Roy (chicken breast, with haggis fritter) or the Vegetarian option (jalapeno & chickpea fritter) to choose from. Each is served in a brioche roll with a side of rosemary fries and in my opinion you just can't beat this kind of value for money!

These are just a handful of the incredible menus on offer throughout the event. You can find the full list of participating restaurants, along with their menus over on the Aberdeen Restaurant Week website. Make sure you book ahead as it does get busy, and let me know where you'll be eating this February!
