My Ultimate Guide to a Fantastic Aberdeen Restaurant Week

If you haven't heard of Aberdeen Restaurant Week yet, you must have been living under a rock (or at least not following my Insta stories for the last few days)! It's a celebration of the incredible food and dining experiences that Aberdeen has to offer, where you can enjoy a 2 course lunch for £10 or a 3 course dinner for £20 at over 40 restaurants in the city centre. I massively enjoyed the inaugural event back in February this year, so you can imagine my delight at being invited to be on the official blogging team for round 2 which runs from 3rd-9th September!

aberdeen restaurant week

As an official Aberdeen Restaurant Week blogger, it was our job to visit the participating restaurants and check out the menus ahead of the launch. Meaning that we could review each one and give you guys an insight into what to expect, helping you decide where to book of course.

I visited three restaurants for my reviews - each one a completely different style of cuisine and an individual dining experience - and luckily each one was fantastic! As with last time, my main goal is to try places I've never been before and these were all new to me. So with that in mind, here's where I recommend eating this week...

Cafe Boheme Aberdeen Restaurant Week

Café Boheme

First up, was Café Boheme - a French style bistro in the heart of the city. The setting is ideal for a cosy, romantic date night and boasts some exceptional dishes on the menu. We enjoyed a delicious 3 course dinner here and I absolutely could not fault a thing. My top picks are definitely the Toulouse sausage and the rhubarb crème brulee.

Selera Malaysia Bistro Aberdeen Restaurant Week

Selera Malaysia Bistro

With it's location tucked away underneath Union Street, I think Selera is one that many people miss. I was excited to try the menu as I've never tasted Malaysian food and wasn't sure what to expect. If you're a fan of fragrant dishes, packed with flavour and a little heat, you'll love it here! The Nasi Lemak Chicken Rendang is the star of the show for me.

Mackie's 19.2 Aberdeen Restaurant Week

Mackie's 19.2

A much more casual setting, Mackie's 19.2 is ideal for a quick stop on your lunch break. But bare in mind it's not for the calorie conscious. Their ARW menu is a little different, focusing on what they do best - ice cream, duh. For your £10 at Mackie's you get any 2 ice cream crepes with any 2 hot drinks, which in my opinion is a bloody good deal. You have to try the buttery and jam flavoured ice cream!

Sneap Pop Up Aberdeen Restaurant Week

Sneap Slow Food Pop-up

I was also fortunate enough to experience the Sneap pop up with their exclusive Aberdeen Inspired Blogger's Dinner. With their seasonal, sustainable, Scottish slow food ethos, and daily changing menu this pop up at Contour Cafe on the Green is not to be missed!

We were treated to a starter of surf and razor clams, sourced fresh from the market that morning and dressed with delicious samphire and herb pesto. The Aberdeenshire hanger steak main course was incredible with delicious crispy broccoli and purple Perthshire potatoes all sourced from CFine, and don't even get me started on that apple and damson crumble. I'm already considering booking a second night! Spaces are limited so you'll need to book fast.

Bistro Bingo

To shake things up a bit this time round, you can get involved in a game of Bistro Bingo. A chance to win a Chef's table experience at one of four Aberdeen restaurants - either Café Boheme, Café Harmony, Shri Bheema's or the Carmelite! All you have to do is eat at any 5 different ARW venues throughout the week, fill in an entry card and e-mail it off to Aberdeen Inspired along with photos of your receipts!

Aberdeen Restaurant Week

I'm so pleased to hear that Aberdeen Inspired (the driving force behind ARW) hope to keep this event in the calender biannually for the foreseeable future. It's a fantastic addition to the Granite City's foodie scene, highlighting the spectacular array of restaurants from the ever popular and tasty chains to the cosy independent eateries filled with heart and soul.

Now all you have to do is choose one more eatery to add to my recommendations and you're well on your way to winning Bistro Bingo!
