Prague | 3 of the City's Best, Exciting Cocktail Bars

As the Czech Republic has the highest consumption of beer per capita in the world, it's no surprise that Prague is well known for it's beer scene. You can buy a pint for as little as £0.80, find 40 breweries in the city alone and even bathe in it at The Beer Spa! But did you know Prague also has a cracking cocktail scene?

Sipping a Wilson cocktail in Anonymous Bar, Prague

I always shout out to our bartender friends for recommendations before we go to a new city - who else can you trust to know the best bars in the world? Their suggestions for excellent cocktail bars in Prague did not disappoint! Not only are the drinks delicious but they're crafted with care by highly skilled and knowledgeable bartenders, using an extensive range of ingredients and often served in fun, quirky styles. What's not to love?

Cash Only Bar

Cash Only does exactly what it says on the tin. This intimate, no frills cocktail bar serves drinks, hotdogs and popcorn but doesn't accept card payments. Make sure to take some cash out before you head in! We sat at the bar and chatted to the friendly bartenders, who whipped up an excellent espresso martini for Gordon and an earl grey infused cocktail from their seasonal menu for me!

A short walk from Cash Only is their sister bar, Hemingway's. We shared some absinthe based cocktails here but much preferred the laidback vibe at Cash Only.

L'Fleur Mixology & Champagne Bar

Located just a two minute walk from the Old Town Square, L'Fleur is the perfect spot to warm up after a stroll through the Christmas market! Again we sat at the bar, chatted to the bartenders and witnessed a champagne tasting going on next to us. The "mixology and champagne bar" has a high end, old school feel but the cocktails are fun and flamboyant - think coconuts and pyramids as glassware!

We couldn't make a decision from the eclectic menu so let the bartender decide for us - the fruity Vesuv Julep and exotic Stone Face drinks did not disappoint!

AnonymouS Bar

Our favourite of all the bars we visited in Prague, was definitely Anonymous. Tucked away down an unassuming courtyard, this cocktail haunt has a somewhat mysterious atmosphere. Their second bar is known as Anonymous Shrinks Office, although we didn't get a chance to visit. Bartenders hide behind masks and serve exceptional drinks with serious flair. Think mini fire shows, "blood" infusions and the odd polaroid snap for good measure. Masks are provided with certain drinks, but staff will happily let you borrow one if you ask nicely.

You should probably ask to borrow a blue light too, if you want to find that secret menu... I recommend ordering a "Wilson". And watching Tom Hanks' Cast Away right now if you don't know what I'm talking about!

Top Tips for Drinking Cocktails in Prague

  • Reservations are recommended, although we didn't have any. We visited the bars mid week and not long after opening time, and were always seated straight away. However if you're in Prague for the weekend it's probably best to book ahead, especially for larger groups.
  • Expect to pay more. Cocktails average about 250CZK (roughly £9) which is a fair price for the standard of drinks and service in my opinion, but it can be a shock if you've got used to the cheap beer!
  • Try absinthe! Many places will serve a shot set on fire, but this is a bit of a gimmick. Hemingway Bar is a good spot to learn a bit more about absinthe and how to drink it properly. The green liquor is made with anise and other herbs. If you're not a fan of a strong aniseed flavour, I recommend ordering an absinthe based cocktail which often comes served in one of these fancy fountains!
Cheers! Let us know in the comments below if you've visited our top 3 Prague cocktail bars - or if you find any more we should try!

  2. I was in the Banker's Bar and La Casa de la Havana vieja in Prague city and it was incredible! The Banker's Bar is classy interior and the modernist mixology! And La Casa with caribbean vibes is fun but professional. I warmly recommend.
